Job Summary
The Lead Civil Engineer – Oil & Gas is responsible for civil and structural engineering design, development, and technical leadership for oil and gas infrastructure and facilities projects. This role provides engineering expertise in foundation design, structural systems, site infrastructure, and civil planning. The position requires advanced civil and structural engineering expertise in oil and gas industry, deep knowledge of geotechnical principles and structural design codes, proven ability to lead engineering teams and manage design consultants and construction supervision, and commitment to delivering safe, efficient, cost-effective civil infrastructure designs.
Responsibilities
- Lead civil and structural engineering activities from conceptual design through construction completion and project closeout.
- Conduct site investigations, geotechnical surveys, soil and rock sampling, and laboratory testing for foundation design.
- Design shallow foundations, deep foundations, mat foundations, and specialised foundation systems.
- Develop structural designs for buildings, process structures, equipment supports, and facilities.
- Design site infrastructure including access roads, parking areas, drainage systems, stormwater systems, and utility corridors.
- Conduct structural analysis and design calculations including finite element analysis, load analysis, stress analysis, and dynamic analysis.
- Establish civil engineering design standards, best practices, design records, and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, environmental regulations, API, ASME, IBC, ACI, and AISC standards.
- Manage permit approvals, environmental assessments, building permits, and land use approvals.
- Lead civil engineering teams, designers, technicians, consultants, and design contractors.
- Coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
- Supervise civil and structural construction including excavation, foundation works, structural erection, and concrete placement.
- Conduct QA/QC inspections, material testing, field surveys, site measurements, and as-built verification.
- Support project cost estimates, schedules, value engineering, constructability reviews, and cost optimisation.
- Manage design changes, field changes, construction claims, technical specifications, final reports, and project closure documentation.
Mandatory Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 10+ years of professional civil and structural engineering experience in industrial projects.
- Minimum 5+ years in project engineering or project management leadership roles.
- Experience managing civil and structural aspects of projects with budgets of USD 15 million or greater.
- Strong expertise in foundation design and geotechnical engineering principles.
- Strong knowledge of structural design for industrial facilities, including steel and reinforced concrete structures.
- Knowledge of building codes and industry standards.
- Extensive experience in construction supervision, quality control, construction management, and field engineering support.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software.
- Proficiency in civil CAD tools.
- Experience with geotechnical analysis and foundation design tools.
- Expert knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles, design methodologies, and industrial facility design.
- Strong knowledge of IBC, ACI, AISC, API, and ASME standards.
- Strong knowledge of site planning, roadways, drainage systems, utility systems, and environmental compliance.
